PE1_imovie

 I must admit that I am pretty well verse in the usage of imovie.  Although I don't use imovie in my Television Production course, I do teach it to elementary aged students during the Summer.  The version of imovie that I use to teach is 2008, and  a lot of things have changed since that version.  I thought it would be interesting to go through the tutorial and find out the new gadgets. One of the things that my students still have to do is use taped based Mini DV cameras.  The firewire port has changed since 2008, so I was interested in seeing how different the procedures for loading video is now.

BP4-250 word review of tool

                                                                These two tools did not work for me.

In this assignment, we were asked to find, create, and use a new Web 2.0 tool.  And boy oh boy, how many there are!  I visited so many sites, watched at least 15 tutorial videos on various sites like bliptv, joost, comic sketch, gotv, tubecast, colaab, zbang, and on and on.  I finally settled on edmodo.  I have heard of this tool, but never even considered using it.  Interesting enough, I was more excited to use this tool than any of the others.  I instantly was able to begin working using this tool, which I loved. Unlike another site that I joined, registered for, watched a 15-minute video on, and then went to the site to begin using the application, and the web site was no longer taking new members!  So frustrating.    

Edmodo was up and running in less than an hour.  I was able to set up each of my classes, alerts, load an assignment, and join three communities.  There are even options to insert quizzes and polls.  This impressed me greatly, since I am currently paying an annual fee to use Quia.com.  I plan to ask my students to join on tomorrow.  

I plan to use this tool to communicate with my students and their parents outside of the classroom, as another tool for communication.  Students can already visit my program's website, my school blog, we have class sites on Twitter, and Facebook, and even a Youtube page.  Our videos can be view on our webpage, vimeo, and facebook.  What I originally hope to find was a Web 2.0 tool that would allow me to upload the student's show on their cell phones.  However, I was unable to find a tool that would do this.  With edmodo, students will be able to update their status, and communicate with me easily.
